In Valdez we took the fast (wow! –up to 40 knots! Jet boat - you should see the rear water jets) ferry through Prince William Sound to Whittier. Great scenery along the route and arrival in Whittier reveals a unique sea port tuck in against the mountains with a Princess cruise ship – about 3000 passengers at the dock. Ours was a cheaper cruise for sure.
Upon leaving the ferry we headed for the highway to the Kenai Peninsula. The first leg of the highway goes through a 2.5 mile long tunnel! You have to ride in the centre lane between railway tracks – it takes some concentration not to wander onto the greasy rails (which usually results in a crash apparently) or to fixate on the light at the end and get mesmerized.
We then headed for the small tourist town of Seward which was pretty but way too busy. No campsites anywhere that looked reasonable so we headed back to Moose Pass.
